Wellness Exams

Why are wellness exams necessary?

Wellness exams are necessary to ensure that your body is performing well. It’s also a time for catching up on any vaccinations and to undergo preventive screening tests to catch any diseases early. Dr. Vaze also orders lab tests depending on your family and personal medical history.

What is included in wellness exams?

As you walk into Dr. Vaze’s office, you are asked to fill in necessary forms and a questionnaire regarding your family and medical history. This is followed by:

  • Checking your vital signs
  • Visual inspection of your head, neck, abdomen, and chest
  • Feeling your abdomen for any masses
  • Listening to your heart sounds by stethoscope
  • Examining your nervous system

Dr. Vaze will then discuss with you any abnormal physical findings and risk factors. She also performs an EKG in her office based on your age, along with ordering laboratory tests and necessary screening tests according to your sex.

She also discusses any vaccinations you may need according to your age and vaccination schedule. Some vaccinations like Influenza are optional while others like tetanus diphtheria boosters are due every 10 years.

What are the screening tests for men and women?

There are some screening tests that are common to both men and women while others are gender-specific.

Screening tests common to both are colorectal cancer screening for patients above the age of 50, lung cancer screening, screening for sexually transmitted diseases, and blood tests for diabetes and cholesterol panel.

Additional screening tests for men include prostate cancer screening for patients above the age of 50, testicular examination, and abdominal ultrasound to detect abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Additional screening tests for women include a Pap test, breast examination and breast cancer screening, pelvic examination, and screening for osteoporosis.

When is the next follow-up scheduled?

You will receive a call from Dr. Vaze’s office when the lab results and screening tests are in. If any abnormality is detected, Dr. Vaze will discuss it in detail and suggest medication and follow-up.

If you need to see a specialist, she writes the necessary referral at the follow-up visit.
